Donald J. Romaker, age 86, of Wayne, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born on April 14, 1940, to the late Anthony P. and Mildred A. (Deusburg) Romaker. He was a 1958 graduate of Westwood High School and went on to dedicate 30 years of service to Bowling Green State University, where he worked in the Maintenance Department and Paint Shop before retiring.
Don married Jackie (Malone) Bruce on October 14, 2013, in Bowling Green, Ohio. Together, Don and Jackie shared 38 wonderful years by each other’s side, including nearly 13 years of marriage. Their years together were filled with companionship, love, and many cherished memories.
Surviving Don are his loving wife, Jackie; daughters, Robin (Mike) Bruning and Jennifer Romaker, from his first marriage; step-daughter, Trina (Rudy) Rosales; grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Bruning, Kate Bruning, Mitchell Bruning, Andrew Rosales, and Torie Rosales; and great-grandsons, Mason and Marshall Bruning.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Alan Romaker; and brothers, Jack, Gene, and Jimmy Romaker.
Throughout his life, Don had many interests and hobbies that kept him busy. He was a member of the Ohio Horseman’s Council and the Maumee Valley Gun Association. He had a special interest in history and enjoyed collecting World War II memorabilia, as well as Wheel Horse tractors.
Don was also a true animal lover. Over the years, his life was made richer by the many animals he loved and cared for, especially his dogs and horses. He particularly enjoyed horseback trail riding and the time spent outdoors with his horses. His pets were more than animals to Don—they were beloved companions and an important part of his life.
In a touching coincidence, Don’s beloved dog, Ollie, passed away on the very same day, just shortly before Don. While their loss brings an added sadness to an already difficult day, there is comfort in knowing that two companions who shared such a special bond left this world so closely together.
Above all, Don will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. The memories created throughout his 86 years, along with his love for his family, animals, and the many things that brought him joy, will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life graveside service for Don and Scott will be held on Saturday September 26, 2026, at St. Louis Parish Cemetery in Custar, Ohio at 10:00 am.
