Dorothy M. Kinney (Gonyer), 97, passed away November 7, 2025. Dorothy was born in Bowling Green, OH, to Fred Gonyer and Esther (Spencer) Gonyer, and grew up in Bowling Green.
Dorothy worked briefly at the former H.J. Heinz ketchup factory in Bowling Green, in the drycleaning industry, and as a secretary at the former DeVilbiss Co. in Toledo, OH. She married Ronald L. Kinney from Cygnet, OH, on August 10, 1949, in Bowling Green. She was an accomplished bowler, winning many trophies both on women’s leagues, and on couples’ leagues with Ron. Dorothy loved animals, especially dogs. She was an avid reader – favoring mystery novels — and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. She became a mom at age 40 and devoted much of the rest of her life to her two children as a homemaker, supporting them in school activities and organizing memorable camping vacations for the family. She always remembered birthdays and anniversaries, sending thoughtful cards with personal messages to family, friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her son, Brian (Stacy) Kinney of Traverse City, MI, and daughter, Laura (Kirk) Sadlier of Pelkie, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband Ron, her brothers, Ray and Allen, and sister, Winifred.
