Dr. Jo Beth Gonzalez’ most recent book, “Temporary Stages III: How High School Theatre Fosters Spiritual Strength and Critical Consciousness” received the 2026 Research Excellence Distinguished Book Award from the Educational Theatre Association.
Gonzalez, affectionately known as ‘Dr. G,’ is a Bowling Green High school language arts and drama teacher.

The selection committee praised the book for its expansive and inspiring contribution to theatre education, highlighting its rigorously reflective approach, rich classroom examples, and deep attention to student identity and voice. Her work was recognized as that of an advanced scholar–practitioner, grounded in extensive professional experience.
Gonzalez has been invited to accept the award this July at the EdTA Theatre Education Conference.
