(Submitted by Wood County Veterans Memorial project)
Another “penny war” is planned to raise money for the Wood County Veterans Memorial.
This penny war will involve a “Battle of the Woods,” between Eastwood and Elmwood school districts. During the month of February, the two districts will participate in the fundraiser.
The kickoff of the challenge will be on Jan. 28 at the high school basketball game between the two schools.
Students, as well as members of the community, can place donations in any of the specially marked jars located around both schools. The school district that collects the most money at the end of the month is declared the winner of the penny war.
The money will go toward the $400,000 veterans memorial project being built on the grounds of the Wood County Courthouse. The project honors all Wood County veterans who have lost their lives while serving the nation.
