The Wood County Senior Center will host an opening reception for an exhibit of painting by Sven duChoudry Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 3-5 p.m. The exhibit at the center, located at 140 South Grove St., will continue through Dec. 31.

Sven duChoudry is an artist from Grand Rapids. Sven paints in his modest studio by the Maumee River and the river is crucial to his paintings. The artist’s applications of oil and innovative techniques lend a distinctive 3D aesthetic to his compositions. His works are divided into four presentational categories: 1. Local (Northwest Ohio) Landscapes, 2. Floral Constructs, 3. Mixed-Media Collages, and 4. Still Life.

The exhibit will include “Our New Glory” which is his rendering of the American Flag. The medium is pure, delicate oil on metal and because of the time-deferred multilayered oils. It  took duChoudry 14 years to complete.

When asked to describe his art, duChoudry  said that he “tries very, very hard to have five corners to his works: the Spiritual, the Meaningful, the Beautiful, the Natural, and the Universal because this pentagram resides and resonates deep inside all beings.”

He added: “It is the collector who acquires it and keeps it and is the gatekeeper for an eternity.”
