The Microcystis cyanobacteria bloom in western Lake Erie has an approximate area of 400 square miles, which is a decrease in area since Aug 19. Densest bloom is between Monroe, Michigan and Maumee Bay. Some part of the bloom stretches to Stony Point, Michigan and east alongshore to Port Clinton. A portion extends around the edge of the plume of the Detroit River to Ontario coast west of Point Pelee.
Sandusky Bay has a local bloom of cyanobacteria, which is persistent in most years.
