Falcon hockey star Austen Swankler wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) Friday that he is seeking to leave BGSU after reporting hazing on the team.
“If coming out about is being a bad team then I guess I’m a bad teammate,” he posted.
In a later post he stated: “I came out about everything that happened to stop future incidents from occurring. Hazing is a serious issue especially for this school.”
BGSU has been going through a reckoning since sophomore Stone Foltz died of alcohol poisoning following a hazing ritual.
On Monday BGSU reported that coach Ty Eigner has been placed administrative leave following a report of alleged hazing at an off-campus event involving members of the team.
Three hockey players were placed on interim suspension from the team.
Swankler is a forward from North Huntington, Pennsylvania. He was a nominee for the 2023 Hobie Memorial Award. He announced he is entering the NCAA transfer portal at the same time the hazing incident was made public.

In his State of the University address, BGSU President Rodney Rogers reiterated that the university would act promptly on reports of hazing even if they involve “a high-profile program.”
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
