From FORT MEIGS HISTORIC SITE
Fort Meigs Historic Site will host the War of 1812 Grand Tactical during its signature First Siege 1813 event on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24.
The Grand Tactical is the largest War of 1812 reenactment in North America, drawing hundreds of reenactors for an immersive historical experience. Each year, the Grand Tactical rotates between sites in the United States and Canada. The 2026 event at Fort Meigs is especially significant as Fort Meigs celebrates its 50th anniversary as a living history site and museum and America’s 250th anniversary as a nation.
Visitors can experience the sights, sounds, and intensity of early 19th-century warfare as British, American, and Native American forces clash in battlefield demonstrations. The weekend will feature tactical reenactments, artillery demonstrations, musket fire, and coordinated troop movements that help bring the War of 1812 to life.
Beyond the battlefield, guests can explore military camps, interact with reenactors, and learn about the daily lives of soldiers and civilians during the conflict. Guided tours, historic demonstrations, fashion shows, and hands-on activities will offer opportunities for visitors of all ages to engage with history in meaningful ways.
“Hosting the Grand Tactical is such an honor. It is a great opportunity to bring one of the largest and most dynamic War of 1812 reenactments in North America to our area,” said Ashley Brock, executive director of Fort Meigs Historic Site. “This event brings visitors face-to-face with the courage, sacrifice, and national significance of Fort Meigs in an unforgettable way.”
First Siege 1813 commemorates the original siege of Fort Meigs, which took place early May 1813, when American troops defended the fort against British and Native American forces. The addition of the Grand Tactical elevates the 2026 event.
The Grand Tactical will run both Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission rates are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors 60+, $10 for students, $3 for Ohio History Connection members, and children ages 5 and under are free.
