Nine vehicles were ticketed and four towed overnight from “snow streets” in the city of Bowling Green.
That is far fewer than the 27 vehicles towed earlier this month during the last snowstorm.
Bowling Green Police Major Justin White explained the police make an effort to contact the vehicle owners first before towing. Dispatchers will attempt to reach people by phone, or officers will knock on doors, he said.
“Really, all we want is to get them to move their vehicles,” White said.
Several streets are designated “snow streets” throughout Bowling Green, and during a snow emergency, parking restrictions along these streets are implemented.
Snow streets are marked with blue and white signs. A snow emergency within the city may be declared if 2 inches of snow accumulates. If a snow emergency is declared between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., vehicles parked on a snow street must be removed within two hours of the declaration. If a snow emergency is declared overnight, vehicles must be removed by 9 a.m.
Vehicles parked in violation of snow regulations are subject to being towed at the owner’s expense and a citation may be issued. Even if you don’t live on a snow street, it is very helpful to remove vehicles from the street whenever possible. Doing so will expedite the removal of snow along the roads. Designated streets and other winter regulations are posted on the city’s website.
