Gavarone appointed to state budget conference committee

Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman, R-Lima,  formally appointed Sen. Matt Dolan, R-Chagrin Falls, and Sen. Theresa Gavarone, R-Bowling Green, to serve on the state budget conference committee.

Dolan, who chairs the Senate Finance Committee, and Gavarone, who serves as vice chair of the committee, will represent the 25-member Senate Republican caucus on the panel, which is responsible for negotiating a compromise between the proposed House and Senate versions of the state’s new, two-year operating budget.

“As we begin deliberations with the House this week, I look forward to representing my colleagues and our hard work on the state’s two-year operating budget as we reach an agreement that maintains balance and fiscal responsibility, investing in all Ohioans,” said Dolan.

Recognizing the importance of education, the Senate version of the budget increases K-12 funding in FY22-23 by $228 million when compared to the House’s proposal.

“We are committed to maintaining a stable and sustainable school funding plan that our schools and local communities can rely on,” said Gavarone. “I trust both chambers will come to a reasonable agreement that cuts taxes and benefits all Ohioans.”

The Senate budget includes a 5% across-the-board income tax cut which returns $874 million to Ohioans.

The General Assembly must meet a constitutional requirement to present a balanced budget to the governor by June 30.
