Genoa driver seriously injured in Lake Township crash

A Genoa woman was seriously injured when she ran a stop sign an her vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer Wednesday evening.

At approximately 6:15 p.m., troopers from the Bowling Green Ohio State Highway Patrol Post responded to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of N. Fostoria Road and State Route 579 in Lake Township.

Shawn Burmeister, 42 , of Genoa, Ohio, was driving a 2019 Toyota passenger car, traveling southbound on N. Fostoria Road. she failed to stop for the posted stop sign and drove into the path of a 2015 Freightliner tractor trailer traveling eastbound on State Route 579. The truck was riven by Eric Hunter, 60, of Monroe, Michigan.

Burmeister was transported by Life Flight to Mercy St. Vincent Hospital with serious injuries. Hunter was transported by Allen-Clay Fire and EMS to Mercy St. Vincent Hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.
The patrol repots that safety belts were in use by both drivers and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

The highway patrol was assisted at the scene by Allen-Clay Fire and EMS, Lake Township Police Department, Northwood Police Department, and Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, and Pat and Son’s Towing.
