Bruce Trout, the Good Samaritan who stopped to aid a stranger involved in a car crash just outside Bowling Green last month, reportedly had to have one leg amputated below the knee.

According to a post on GoFundMe set up by a family friend, Brooke Amos, Trout will have another surgery today to determine if he will need an above knee amputation.

“He still has multiple surgeries ahead of him but they are hoping to get him out of the SICU today and into a normal recovery room for now,” his wife, Andrea Trout, wrote on the site.

The Trouts are expecting their first baby any day now.

“They are hopeful that Bruce will be able to be with me when I give birth,” Andrea wrote. “He is already on the road to recovery and has started physical therapy. We are so thankful appreciate all the prayers and support during this difficult time.”

Trout, 32, of Bowling Green, was struck by another vehicle as he was helping a driver who had just been hit on Ohio 25, at the U.S. 6 interchange. Trout’s femoral artery was severed down to the bone.

The GoFundMe page, to help the family with medical bills, has raised $45,670 of its $50,000 goal.
