The Grand Rapids Arts Council offered a week-long camp for grades 1-6. The art camp is so popular, some campers  had to be turned away.

This year’s theme was, “Critters on Our River”, since Grand Rapids is a river town. Teachers were sophomore at BGSU Luke Brewster, music teacher, Ava Starr, from Defying Gravity Dance Studio, and Kirstina Roberts, Otsego Art teacher. Emma Taylor, from the Wood County Parks District came Tuesday and presented outdoor education about familiar ‘River Critters’.

GRAC’s Art Camp is multi-disciplinary, incorporating music, movement through dance and art, allowing children to explore their creativity through various artistic mediums. Encouraging campers to use proper terminology in each art form helps them develop a deeper understanding of the artistic process.

At the end of each station, campers played artistic games that integrate social-emotional learning crucial for children’s overall development. The camp prioritizes the creative process over the final product, fostering a more enjoyable and exploratory experience. The final program for parents and grandparents allows families to see first hand what the campers learned throughout the week.
