Harmful algae bloom spreading in Lake Erie

The cyanobacteria bloom in western Lake Erie has an approximate area of 240 square miles, which is an increase in area since Aug. 3. 

The bloom extends from Monroe, Michigan to Port Clinton, with some dense patches along Catawba Island extending into the western basin. 

There are also some dense bloom patches at the mouth of Sandusky Bay to Huron. 

Sandusky Bay has a local bloom of mixed cyanobacteria.
