High winds topple trees and result in closure of Wintergarden Park for remainder of Friday

High winds today (Friday, March 13) have taken down trees in Bowling Green, and have led to Wintergarden Park being closed to the public for the remainder of the day.

Bowling Green community affairs coordinator Madi Christoff reported the wooded park was closed for public safety after a tree fell on a parked car and other trees were toppled in Wintergarden Park. No injuries were reported.

Public works crews have also been out elsewhere in the city, responding to reports of about 10 trees being blown down.

The city is asking local residents to report downed trees in roadways or on power lines. Following are some numbers to call:

  • For trees in the roadway prior to 4:30 p.m., call public works at 419-354-6227.
  • To report trees in the roadway after 4:30 p.m., call the non-emergency police line at 419-352-2571.
  • For power outages at any hours, call 888-807-2583.
