Highway Patrol investigating crash that seriously injured Fremont woman

Troopers from the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred Feb. 26 on Interstate 75, northbound at Milepost 173, Portage Township, Wood County.

Shortly after 11  p.m., troopers arrived on scene and learned that a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by Jean Heckert, 43, of Fremont was traveling northbound on IR 75. A 2013 Chrysler 200, driven by Carol Scott, 30, of Napoleon was also traveling northbound on I-75.

Scott failed to maintain an assured cleared distance and rear ended Heckert’s vehicle Heckert’s vehicle traveled off of the left side of the roadway into the median where it came to rest. Scott’s vehicle traveled off of the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch.

Ms. Heckert sustained serious injuries and was transported to Wood County Hospital by Wood County EMS. 

Alcohol impairment is believed to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation at this time.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Hanco EMS, Wood County EMS and Fire, VJ’s Towing, and BG Towing.
