John D. Stormer, 76, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo.
John was born on February 9, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, to Dale and Ruth (Madonia) Stormer. He met Carol Harrison on May 16, 1965, confidently and correctly predicting that same day that he was going to marry her. John and Carol were married on November 4, 1967, and shared almost 59 years together, raising a family and building a life centered on love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another. They also shared their home with many beloved dogs throughout the years, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to their lives.
John graduated from DeVilbiss High School in Toledo and later continued his education at The University of Toledo. He spent his career as a proud railroader at New York Central, Penn Central, and Conrail until his retirement in 1998.
John was a lifelong fan of Detroit’s professional sports teams and loved to watch University of Michigan football. He also enjoyed golf, reading, bicycling, taking care of his lawn, listening to music, and watching movies. He was a talented craftsman who enjoyed renovating his home and tackling projects around the house. John had a gift for making people laugh and rarely missed an opportunity to tell a joke or lighten the mood.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; daughters, Christina Wilkerson and Michelle (James) Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Kristi Roe, Brianna (Mike Hernandez) Stormer, Kyle (Anna) Wilkerson, Rachel Hefflinger, Brittany (Cody) Munsinger, Madison (Alex) Heersche, Brandon Willinger (fiancée, Katie Carnett), Johnathan Wilkerson, and Savannah Fitzgerald; fifteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Stormer, Ronald Stormer, and Tony Stormer; brother-in-law, Dennis (Marcia) Harrison; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dale John Stormer; his brother, Thomas Stormer; his son-in-law, Jeffery Wilkerson; and his nephews, Jordan Stormer and Dominic Stormer.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, where funeral services will begin at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery.
