From THE LAKESIDE THEATRE COMPANY

The Lakeside Theatre Company is excited to announce its production of Peter Quilter’s “Glorious!” opening Thursday, Sept. 22 and running weekends through Sunday, Oct. 2, in the Maumee Indoor Theatre.

This hilarious and heart-warming comedy about the worst singer in the world is based on a true story.

In 1940’s New York, the singer who everyone wanted to see live was Florence Foster Jenkins, an enthusiastic soprano whose pitch was far from perfect. Known as “the first lady of the sliding scale,”she warbled and screeched her way through charity recitals, extravagant balls and an ultimate triumph at NYC’s famed Carnegie Hall. But this delusional and joyously happy woman paid little attention to her critics; instead she surrounded herself with a circle of devoted friends who were almost as eccentric as she was.

Florence Foster Jenkins will be played by Mary Boyer. Ms. Boyer, a native of Toledo, has returned to her hometown after 47 years in NYC. Her NYC years were spent working and teaching in the theatre, film and TV industry. She is the owner and founder of MTB Acting Studio. She can be seen as Pat Warren (Crazy Eyes’ Mom) on “Orange is the New Black” currently streaming on Netflix.

St. Clair Bayfield, Florence’s loving companion and theatrically over-the-top Shakespearean actor, will be played by visiting New York actor Tony Triano, whose last performance in Toledo was at the Stranahan Theatre opposite Sally Struthers in “Hello Dolly.” Tony’s current 2022 film “Love in Kilnerry” opened across the US this August. The Lakeside Theatre Company is excited to welcome him to our long awaited 2022 season.

Cosme McMoon, Florence’s pianist and soon to be #1 fan, will be played by Paul Hill who has recently returned from a summer performing at The Utah Opera. Paul completed his Masters in Vocal Performance at the University of Michigan in 2022. The Lakeside Theatre company is thrilled to welcome him.

At every turn, Florence’s wacky entourage played by Mary Aufman, Melanie Miller, Victoria Rinker and Gloria Wang spice up the proceedings at Melatone Studios, the Ritz Carlton and finally at historic Carnegie Hall.
