From LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF BOWLING GREEN

The League of Women Voters of Bowling Green held its 74th annual meeting on June 13 at First Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green.

Karen Wood of the scholarship committee announced the awarding of two $2,000 scholarships to local students. In 2026, the committee received 13 applications from high school seniors at Bowling Green, Eastwood, Elmwood, and Otsego high schools. Keri Ervin of Elmwood High School and Phoenix Coon of Eastwood High School were selected as recipients. Phoenix thanked the league for the opportunity and shared her plans to attend the University of Toledo. Keri was unable to attend due to a prior commitment. She plans to attend Capital University.

President Sharlyn Katzner presented a Lifetime Member certificate to Lee Hakel in recognition of her 50 years of service to the league.

During the business portion of the meeting, approximately 42 voting members constituted a quorum and approved the proposed budget. Members also readopted the league’s programs and policies for 2026-27 and elected new officers and board directors. The newly-elected leadership includes:

  • Program co-vice president: Ellen Dalton
  • Communications vice president: Emily Dowling
  • Treasurer: Gale Swanka
  • Directors: Elayne Jacoby and Deborah Schocket
