Library celebrates Caldecott Medal for picture books

Contenders for the Caldecott Medal available for perusing in the Interactive Room in the WCDPL's Children's Place.

Readers of all ages will have a chance to weigh on their favorite picture book of the year and then watch as the winner is announced during Wood County District Public’s celebration of the Caldecott Medal, the premier award in illustration for children’s literature.

Caldecott titles are on display and available for in-library use in WCDPL’s January Interactive Room in  the Children’s Place.

Discover, read, and look at the selection of distinguished picture books. Then, choose which to vote for in the Mock Caldecott.

The library’s Mock Caldecott program will be Sunday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. in Meeting Room A & B at the Bowling Green Library. Kathy East, retired WCDPL Children’s Place librarian and two-time member of the Caldecott Committee member will lead the discussion and describe the criteria for voting on the most distinguished picture book of the year.

Everyone is encouraged to join the conversation and participate in a Mock Caldecott vote.

The Caldecott Award, along with other Youth Media Awards, will be announced by the American Library Association via live-stream from the ALA LibLearnX Conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

Everyone is invited to a watch party for the award announcements in the Children’s Place Interactive Room at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22.
