Man arrested for firing gun into apartment below, then hiding firearm and magazines

Bowling Green Police arrested a man this morning after a man allegedly fired a gun through the floor of an apartment, causing debris from the ceiling to hit a woman lying in bed in the apartment below. She was unharmed, but reported hearing a pop, noticing a hole in the ceiling, and a metal fragment on her floor.

Kaden Michael Smith, 20, Toledo, was charged with firing a weapon while intoxicated, discharging a firearm in city limits and tampering with evidence. He was taken to Wood County Jail.

Police went to the apartments in the 700 block of Clough Street around 12:30 a.m., after the woman below reported the possible gunshot.

Officers went to the upstairs apartment and spoke with the three people present. Initially Smith denied discharging a firearm. He had reportedly told another person in the apartment that the air mattress in his room had popped, and they patched it with duct tape. He also reportedly told a person in the apartment that if police showed up, they should say he set off fireworks in the residence.

Police found a small hole in the carpet of the bedroom, which lined up with the hole in the ceiling below.

Officers also reportedly found two magazines in the kitchen trash can, a firearm in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator, and a shell casing in Smith’s pocket.
