Man hiding in bushes arrested after reportedly running from police and breaking backyard fence

A Bowling Green police officer was stopped at Pike and North Prospect streets Sunday (May 19) around 2:20 a.m., when he saw a man hiding in the bushes at the Wood County Courthouse parking lot.

The officer reported that the man popped his head out of the top of the bushes, then went back under the bushes. A couple walking by the police cruiser at the time also mentioned the man in the bushes

The officer exited his cruiser and began walking toward the man, who was lying flat on his belly. The man reportedly stood up and began running northbound on North Prospect Street. The officer yelled at the man to stop, but he did not.

Other officers were called and given the description of a white male in a black hoodie and black shorts.

While searching the area, officers heard a loud noise in the alley between 300 blocks of North Prospect and North Summit streets. The man was found with dirt all over him and scratches on his legs. Two different sections of a wooden backyard fence were freshly broken, according to the police report.

The 21-year-old man had slurred speech, bloodshot glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet. He was arrested for disorderly conduct – unable to care for himself, obstructing official business and criminal trespassing. He was taken to Wood County Jail.
