Mark Wongrowski announces his candidacy for Wood County Auditor seat

Mark Wongrowski has announced his candidacy for Wood County Auditor, running on a platform centered on fair property valuation, predictable appeals, strong financial stewardship, and clear, accessible service for residents and businesses.

“People deserve to understand how their property is valued, how their tax bill is calculated, and how to navigate county processes without frustration,” Wongrowski said. “The Auditor’s office should be accurate, transparent, and dependable. That is how trust is built.”

Wongrowski brings a lifelong connection to Wood County and a background shaped by agriculture, teamwork, and long-term responsibility. Growing up on his family’s 50-acre farm, he learned the importance of honesty, integrity, and keeping commitments. Those values carried through years of 4-H and FFA leadership, where success depended on careful planning, ethical practices, and follow-through.

He later applied the same discipline that demanded accuracy, accountability, and performance under tight timelines as a Global Planner and Global Commodity Manager for First Solar.

A graduate of Eastwood High School, Wongrowski holds a bachelor’s in business administration from Bowling Green State University after completing his degree on an accelerated program.

A longtime community member, Wongrowski has coached youth sports, umpired baseball and softball, participated in local leagues, and supported organizations such as the Bowling Green Community Center. His family regularly enjoys Wood County Parks and local city parks, and they are active supporters of community events and local teams.

“As different as our towns and backgrounds may be, we all share something important,” Wongrowski said. “We are from Wood County. That shared identity matters, and county government should reflect it by treating everyone fairly and consistently.”

As auditor, Wongrowski’s priorities would include strengthening valuation quality control, improving communication during revaluations, and making the Board of Revision process easier to understand and navigate. His platform emphasizes clear explanations of what changed, what did not, and what options residents have if they have questions or concerns.

Wongrowski also highlights fiscal integrity as a core responsibility of the auditor’s office. His plan includes stronger internal controls, better audit readiness, improved reporting, and treating cybersecurity as a fundamental part of financial stewardship. He supports clear public explanations of how tax rates work, where property tax dollars go, and what decisions are made through the county budget process.

Additional focus areas would include improving customer service response times, simplifying common forms and checklists, expanding outreach for tax relief programs like homestead exemptions, and ensuring consistent administration of reductions and exemptions. Wongrowski also supports transparent handling of unclaimed funds, modern but reliable technology governance, and fair, well-documented valuation of large and complex properties.

“This role is about stewardship,” Wongrowski said. “Stewardship of public dollars, public data, and public trust. My goal is simple. Do the work carefully, explain it clearly, and treat people with respect.”
