Mary F Seifert

Mary Frances (Stein) Seifert passed away on September 24, 2019 at the age of 94 at Otterbein Portage Valley in Pemberville. She was born on July 23, 1925 in Dunbridge, Ohio to the late Frank and Alice (Storeholder) Stein.

While growing up Mary’s family moved many times while her Dad looked for work. She lived in Dunbridge, Metamora, Holland and Berkey before settling in Portage, Ohio. Mary was a 1943 graduate of Bowling Green High School. During WWII, Mary was writing letters to a friend, Howard Seifert, where he fell in love with her; however, she still considered him just a friend. Howard returned home in May 1946 where he must have convinced her to change her mind as they became engaged at Christmas and married the following year on June 7, 1947. Howard and Mary set up housekeeping on Rte. 582 in rural Bowling Green. They lived there for 2 years before moving to Lyons, Ohio to farm. They made many lifelong friends here before moving back to the home farm in rural Bowling Green in 1964. In 1987, they moved to Lake Wales, Fla. where they built a new home. In 2002, they returned home to Bowling Green. Wherever they lived, they always made everyone feel welcomed. They celebrated 59 years of marriage before Howard passed in January 2007.

Mary was a homemaker and a member of St. Aloysius church, Bowling Green, and a former member of the Altar Society and Homemakers. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and crafting. She enjoyed the many craft projects at Otterbein and did beautiful handwork embroidery up until January of 2019.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Edwin Stein, a sister Marcella Clingenpeel, a son, Doug Seifert, and a granddaughter, Amber Reynolds.
