Mary J. Fortney, 93, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away April 3, 2026. She was born December 26, 1932 in Bowling Green to the late Arthur and Aletha (Welsh) Avery. She married Robert L. Fortney on August 23, 1952 and he preceded her in death on November 10, 2017.
Mary was a member of the Bowling Green Country Club and The Elks. She and Bob enjoyed their retirement years in Arizona and their many summer’s on Round Lake in Michigan. She loved spending time golfing, playing cards with family and friends and shopping.
She is survived by her children Sandra (Alex) Koepfler, Richard Fortney, Cindy (Steven) Puffer and Suzie Fortney, grandchildren Chad Koepfler, Jeff Koepfler, Benjamin Koepfler, Brian Puffer, Andrew Puffer, Ashley Joyner and Samantha Fortney as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, grandson Shawn Lorch, brother Bill Avery and sister Irene Snyder.
Mary will fondly be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and passion for life. She was a courageous ovarian cancer survivor setting the stage for her determination and grit for the remainder of her life. Mary’s grandchildren affectionately called her “Minnie” which told a story of its own.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 7, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 W. Wooster St. A scripture service will be held Tuesday evening at the funeral home at 6:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday April 8, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 150 S. Enterprise St. Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Father Tom McQuillen will officiate. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green.
