Mary Jane graduated cum laude from Ohio State University in 1954. She married Dave in August of that year and taught high school home economics to put him through his last two years of medical school at Ohio State.
Residents of Bowling Green since 1962 the Millers were active members of the First United Methodist Church and founding members of Dayspring Church.
Mary Jane had a lifelong commitment to serving others where she found a need. As President of the Wood County chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill she learned that there was no structured housing for people afflicted by mental illness. She secured grants and supervised building multiple housing units. She was honored with the Key to the City of Bowling Green and numerous other awards but her biggest legacy is the many who have a better life today. Mary Jane proved that one person can make a difference.
When she wasn’t busy saving the world she enjoyed flying stunt kites, sewing, reading and visiting her family in South Carolina and Colorado.
In later years as her struggle with Parkinsons became more challenging she was comforted by the many kindnesses shown to her by members of Dayspring Church, her wonderful neighbors on Deer Ridge Run and friends throughout the community, Her family also joins her in profound thanks to her primary caregivers Jane, Bev and Karen who helped guide her home to the loving arms of God.
