National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wood County announces a variety of free events, educational classes and support groups planned this fall that address mental health for the Wood County community.
NAMI Family-to-Family is an eight-session education course on Thursdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. starting Sept. 7 through Oct. 26. The sessions, which are held at the Bowling Green office, 1250 Ridgewood Dr., is for family members, caregivers and friends of individuals living with a mental illness. For individuals living with a mental illness, NAMI offers an eight-week Peer-to-Peer education course. Participants will gain information on brain biology, common mental disorders and assistance with developing a relapse prevention plan, mindfulness techniques to relieve stress and more. The next class begins on Sept. 6 and runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through Oct. 11 at the Bowling Green office. To learn more and register, visit www.namiwoodcounty.org/peer-peer/.
NAMI Basics, an education course for caregivers of children and adolescents living with a mental health condition, will be offered virtually from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 12, 19 and 26. The Zoom link will be emailed to those who register at www.namiwoodcounty.org/nami-basics/.
On Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 4:30-6 p.m., NAMI Wood County will host a Nite Out with NAMI picnic at Bowling Green City Park. The event offers a great gathering opportunity for food and fellowship for people in Wood County who want to learn more about educational topics that are mental health-adjacent. The NAMI Wood County office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4 for Labor Day. Normal business hours will return on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
