Naomi Ann Layman, age 101, of Pemberville and formerly of Luckey, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, in Toledo. She was born on March 22, 1925 to Robert William and Jennie Catharine (Phillips) Crow, in Logan Township, OH. She was a 1943 graduate of Buckland High School, later graduating from the Flower Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She proudly served her country during WWII in the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corp. Following the war, she moved to Hawaii to work at the Queen’s Hospital before returning to Ohio to continue her profession.
On June 20, 1954 she married Marion E. Layman in Buckland, OH. Naomi and Marion raised 2 daughters and celebrated 68 years of marriage, until Marion’s passing in 2022.
In addition to being a homemaker and taking care of her children and husband, Naomi worked outside the home in various nursing capacities. These included Public Health Nurse, nursing instructor, nursing supervisor, floor nurse and office practice amounting to 50 years, retiring in 1996.
Naomi was a woman of faith and her memberships included: Zion United Methodist Church, where her ministries included UMW of Zion United Methodist and Wood County Hospital Guild, and life membership of Wood County Retired Teachers, Ohio Retired Teachers Association and Flower Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae. She was also a 4H Advisor for the Luckey Stitchers. Her greatest love remained family, especially her grandson.
Naomi is survived by her daughters: Mary (Roy) Layman Goldstein of PA, and Amy (James) Buskirk of WA, and grandson, Ian Goldstein of NY. In addition to her husband Marion, Naomi was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Donald, Carvel, and William Crow, as well as sister, Mildred Mertz.
In addition to numerous surviving nieces and nephews, Naomi appreciated the kindness and support of nieces Connie Eckel and Ellen Hammer and family friend Barb Helm.
Family and friends will be received 4-7p.m., Wed, September 16, 2026 at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 110 W. Main St, Luckey, OH. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Zion United Methodist Church, 525 Krotzer Ave, Luckey, where there will be an additional time of visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Pr. Leroy Sholey will be officiating. Interment will be in the Troy Township Cemetery, Luckey.
