Over the past several months I have had a fascinating glimpse into the behind the scenes campaign of Nick Rubando. I don’t work for him but my son who is in college volunteers for his campaign and I thought I would share some snippets I have gleaned through our conversations with your readers.
Nick is described as “genuine”, “energized” and “passionate’ about what he is doing even when he is working alone with this team. He is one of the precious few ego-free individuals who go into politics because they are inspired to be a true public servant.
Starkly put, Nick is fighting for more accessible health care because he has lived that nightmare. When he was in college, his mom lost her health insurance. He is very aware that in order to win this fight Bob Latta who is paid off by pharmaceutical companies has to go and he’s determined to finally end Latta’s self-serving tenure.
Nick Rubando is currently on track to get the most votes any Democrat has ever received in this district. He’s in this to win this with the work ethic, skills, and experience to actually make it happen.
Nick has worked on the congressional campaigns of other candidates and has flipped his share of house seats from red to blue. Insiders know that it takes a truly selfless servant to go from being a volunteer to putting yourself on the gritty, exhausting and often thankless front lines. This energetic, self-possessed young man has the character and tenacity to do just that.
While “Where’s Bob Latta?” is Bob’s hometown of Bowling Green’s version of “Where’s Waldo”, (referring to Latta’s frustrating habit of consistently and famously dodging appointments with his constituents at his office a mere five-minute drive from his home), Nick Rubando is putting in the sweat equity. He’s out there, listening to the people. Really listening to them. Making 300-400 phone calls every day and pounding the pavement year-round to make sure that he is seeing and hearing from the folk who will trust him with their vote.
Check Nick’s website out and you will find that he’s a familiar face. He has spent time in this community. He’s the kind of visionary, hardworking, ethical leader we are way overdue for and desperately need to flip the 5th. Vote Rubando.
