Pemberville Methodist capped the 2023-24 Wood County Dartball League season by capturing the annual post-season tournament with a 10-1 record, one game ahead of regular-season winner BG Nazarene.
.Pemberville Methodist won both of its games on April 8 to garner the title. The four-week, round-robin event was held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bowling Green.
Pemberville Methodist needed an 11-8 come-from-behind victory over Zion Luckey in the final game of the evening to secure the championship. Down 8-6 entering the top of the ninth inning, Pemberville Methodist rallied for five runs on seven hits to earn the win.
Tom Jividen and Alex Ward had bases-loaded singles to tie the game. Darren Pash followed with a two-run double to break the deadlock and Rick Ward closed the scoring with a RBI single. Pash ended the game with five hits, including a triple, and drove in five runs.
A win by Zion against Pemberville Methodist would have forced the league’s first-ever three-way playoff to determine a champion. BG Nazarene finished second at 9-2 while Zion closed at 8-3.
BG Cloverdale, the only other team that fashioned a winning record, secured fourth place with a 7-4 mark.
BG Nazarene won the regular-season crown with a 55-11 record, 12 games in front of second-place Pemberville Methodist.
The league’s players and families will hold its awards dinner on April 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stony Ridge with the festivities beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Wood County Dartball League’s first awards gathering was held in 1939.
