Ruth Lucille Troxell died Saturday June 13, 2026 at the age of 105 at Brookdale Senior Living in Corona, CA. Ruth’s roots run deep in the Bowling Green, Ohio area. She was born on April 10, 1921 in Liberty Twp, Wood Co, OH to Jay and Artie (Kibler) Angel. On July 5, 1947 she married Erstill ‘Pete’ Troxell, who in 1983 preceded her in death. Ruth’s three siblings, Thelma Herringshaw (Robert), James Angel (Betty Ann), Richard Angel (Juanita) have preceded her in death. Her son David A. Troxell, preceded her in death in 1974. She is survived by her daughter Eileen Foate (Alan); grandchildren Charolyn Kelly, Holly Gilsdorf (Mike), John Keys (Jen), David Foate (Krishawna), Katherine Chapman (Ryan), Erin Kaufman (Randy), and 18 great grandchildren.
Ruth was active in church work since 1959, in a secretarial role for the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) offices in Findlay. When the EUBs merged with the Methodists she continued her work for the combined United Methodist Findlay District office until her first retirement in 1986, as the office administrator. She returned to serving the church in 1996 at Christ United Methodist church in Portage, where she retired at age 92. Ruth was an active member of her local and church community. Over the years she served as Senior treasurer, taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the United Methodist Women’s group as well as the Portage American Legion Auxiliary.
Ruth stayed active with daily devotionals, reading, laughter, traveling, friends, supporting grandchildren and great-grandchildren in everyday life including school, sports, providing a listening ear and offering guidance inspiring a book titled, “A Tiny Little Lady Who Has A Great Big Heart.” She felt very blessed.
Arrangements have been made for a ‘celebration of life’ on Friday July 24, 2026, from 4:30p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, located at 301 W. Main St. Portage, Ohio 43451. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
