SAVE Act’s requirements for proof of citizenship are not complicated

Many LTE’s have been written over the past weeks about voting in Ohio’s Federal elections. Let  me try to set the record straight, it is not complicated.  I searched the Congress.gov site on the internet to find HR-22 , the proposed SAVE act. It was introduced by Chip Roy R-TX on January 3rd,2025.

This proposed bill requires individuals to provide documentary proof of US citizenship when registering to vote in a Federal election. Acceptable proof of US citizenship would be identification that complies with the REAL ID Act of 2005 that indicates US citizenship. Along with US citizenship requirements for the Real ID license, Green card holders would have stamped on their license “Not Transferable” ( to another state ) .

If born in Ohio the applicant will need a Certified Birth Certificate obtainable at the Wood County Board of Health. For married folks additionally you will need your Marriage license, which would show spouse’s  maiden name.

That is the line of proof back to county and city of birth in Ohio for a Certified Birth record used for obtaining the right to vote in a Federal election.
