The City of Bowling Green Utilities Business Office has been notified by several customers who have received calls warning that their utilities would be shut off if payment was not made immediately. Customers, who receive a call making similar demands or asking for account information, should not respond and are urged to report the phone number to the Bowling Green Police Division at 419-352-1131.
Residents, delinquent on their utility accounts, can expect to receive an automated phone call and a delinquent letter in addition to their bills. They may be subject to disconnection when temperatures are above 32 degrees. Residents will never be asked to pay their City of Bowling Green utility bill with gift cards.
Residents, who have questions about their bills, are encouraged to check their account online or call the Utilities Business Office at 419-354-6252. Information on Utility Bill Pay Assistance is available on the city’s website at www.bgohio.org.
Residents and businesses are urged to remain vigilant and take precautions to protect themselves from falling victim to these scams. In addition, if approached by someone claiming to be a utility worker demanding immediate payment:
- Do not allow these individuals into your home, and do not provide them with your utility bill or other personal information.
- Do not leave your home unattended to accompany an individual who shows up without an appointment.
- Report them to the Bowling Green Police Division by calling 419-352-1131.
City employees will provide identification to residents. If you’re ever unsure about someone’s identity, call the Utilities Business Office at 419-354-6252. City employees will never come to your home to demand payment, will never request to meet you somewhere for payment, and will never demand immediate payment or payments made with gift cards or prepaid credit cards.
