Wood County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Bonnough was treated and released after he was hit Sunday, around 6:27 a.m., on Ohio 199 south of Eagleville Road. Bonnough is a 12-year veteran of the sheriff’s office.

The driver of the car that reportedly struck the deputy, Emma Shultz of Fostoria, was also treated and released.

Bonnough was hit while he was on the scene with ODOT and the Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative for a tree that had fallen and broke electric lines that were in the roadway.

While assisting these agencies with repair of the electric lines and clearing the debris from the roadway, Bonnough was outside his patrol vehicle when reportedly struck by a passing motorist.
