Sue Mazey, age 82, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 29, 2026. She was born on December 19, 1943, to the late Newton and Eileen (Dyke) Bechstein. She met the love of her life, Gene Mazey, when they were both 14 and in school. They married on July 20, 1963, and shared a lifetime together. Gene survives her in Grand Rapids, Ohio.
A 1961 graduate of Otsego High School, Sue built a long career in banking, working as a bank teller for more than 50 years. She began at Bank of Wood County, spent 20 years at Huntington Bank, and later retired from First Federal Bank.
Sue was a former member of Weston Church of Christ and an active member of Sonlight Church in Weston, Ohio. Her faith was an important part of her life and community.
Sue had a wonderful eye for style and beauty. She loved shopping and was always thoughtfully dressed, with jewelry to match. She brought that same sense of style into her home, which she delighted in decorating. She also loved flowers and took great pleasure in choosing what would be planted in her flower beds—and directing Gene on where to plant them. It was a shared joy that brought them many happy moments.
Sue enjoyed visiting Amish country and gathering with her friends for ladies’ nights. Above all, she treasured time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness.
She will be remembered for her generous heart, her unmistakable style, and the deep love she had for her family and friends.
Along with her beloved husband Gene, Sue is survived by her children Kevin (Amy) Mazey of Weston, Ohio, Ryan (Sandy) Mazey of Weston, Ohio, daughter in law Michelle Mazey of Weston, Ohio, her brother Ronald (Brenda) Bechstein of Weston, Ohio, her cherished grandchildren Amanda (Jacob) Smith, Andrew (Maddie) Mazey, Tyler (Kinsey)Mazey, Aubrey Mazey, Morgan (Kevin) Hoppes, Sydney Mazey, loving great-grandchildren Riley Smith, John Raymond Mazey, Jameson and Jenson Hoppes.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Denny Bechstein, sister Pat Huling and her cherished son Kurt Mazey whom she carried in her heart always.
