From NORTH BALTIMORE PUBLIC LIBRARY
Every area has its supposedly haunted stretch of road, and for Wood County, that’s an ominous, tree-covered stretch of Holcomb Road. Did a tragic bus accident on the road take the lives of several school children? Do their angry spirits terrorize those who venture into Holcomb Woods?
One of the most credible UFO sightings on record happened on a clear night in 1973, when four military officers were flying their helicopter from Mansfield to Cleveland and nearly collided with a UFO.
A fearsome creature wielding a 2-by-4 terrorized railroad workers and sent residents of a small city built on the confluence of the Maumee and Auglaize rivers into a short-lived werewolf mania in 1972. Today, we know this creature as the Dogman of Defiance.
Kevin Moore and Kristina Smith, authors of “Unnatural Ohio,” will share these stories during a presentation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at the North Baltimore Public Library, 230 Main St., North Baltimore. They will also have copies of their book available for sale.
The book began as a special exhibit in 2020 and 2021 at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in Fremont, where Moore is curator of artifacts, and Smith is marketing/communications manager.
The pair co-wrote the book for The History Press.
In addition to their work at Hayes Presidential, Moore hosts “Can’t Make This Up: A History Podcast,” where he interviews authors and historians, and Smith is a freelance writer and photographer.
