From TOWN HALL COMMITTEE OF GRAND RAPIDS
The Town Hall Committee and Grand Rapids Historical Society have announced the next musical program in the historic Grand Rapids Town Hall. It will be presented by The Voices of Harmony on Saturday, May 9, at 7 p.m., in the auditorium of the town hall, 24282 Front St.
The Voices of Harmony is a Bowling Green-based, award-winning men’s a cappella barbershop chorus and chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The chorus was founded in 2006 by Richard (R.D.) Mathey, Director Emeritus of choral activities at BGSU, and he directed the group until 2008.
The chorus performs throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, specializing in four-part harmony, holiday shows, and annual singing Valentines in February. The group often welcomes new members to their rehearsals, which are held Tuesday evenings at the Bowling Green Alliance Church. Members aim to offer awe-inspiring performances with a commitment to sterling musicianship, stage presentation, and community service. The Voices of Harmony also sponsors an annual festival called BarberQ.
CC Snyder, a founding member and the 2023 Johnny Appleseed District Barbershopper of the Year, now directs the chorus. Job Bell serves as the publicity director for the chorus and sang in the group from 1986 – 1992.
Bell said the groups, “can get pretty outrageous. For a lot of us, it’s a chance to be somebody you’re not in real life.”
Tickets are $10 each and are available at The Village Orchard in Grand Rapids or at the door.
