The Wall Street Journal is closing its printing and distribution operations in Bowling Green.
“We are winding down operations at the Bowling Green facility,” according to Steve Severinghaus, senior director for communications for Dow Jones, the newspaper’s parent company.
The plant, which opened in 1981, printed the edition of the Wall Street Journal distributed in the Midwest.
In his statement, Severinghaus continued: “We are working closely with union representatives in Bowling Green to provide assistance for our affected employees.”
The move comes as there is increasing demand for the company’s digital products. Still, he wrote, “we also have an important community of loyal readers who enjoy the print experience. The realignment of our print operations reduces costs and streamlines production – which overall strengthens our commitment to print products.”
