A water main break just north of East Court Street in Bowling Green has left the Wood County Courthouse complex and some buildings on the Bowling Green State University campus without water today (1/22).
Bowling Green Utilities and Infrastructure Director Brian O’Connell said around 12:30 p.m., that a 12-inch water main in the alley east of Enterprise Street and north of East Court Street had broken due to the extreme cold.
The city has closed some valves in the area, but has not completely shut off the water, so a boil advisory does not need to be issued. However, the lower water pressure is especially affecting the water flow to taller buildings that have booster pumps.
East Court Street is flooded in the area of the break.
The site is excavated and city crews are working in the frigid temperatures to get it repaired.
“We’re trying to get this repaired as soon as we can,” O’Connell said. “We’ll get it done.”
O’Connell reported at Tuesday’s council meeting that the city has already experienced about eight water line breaks to extreme cold.
“That’s quite a few more than we had last year,” he reported to City Council.
