Joe Goodkin to perform ‘The Blues of Achilles,’ April 24
Chicago-based musician, Joe Goodkin, will perform his song adaptation of Homer’s poem, The Iliad, Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in Olscamp Hall 111 on the BGSU campus.
His album, “The Blues of Achilles,” is a set of 17 songs, each sung from the point of view of one of the poem’s characters, capturing the horror, grief, and love that permeates the epic tale.
Kiwanis hosts Bob & Joan Callecod for talk on ‘Modes of Travel,’ April 24
The Bowling Green Kiwanis Club is pleased to welcome Bob and Joan Callecod as featured speakers at its meeting on April 24, 2025. The meeting will begin at 11:45 a.m. in the Slater Family Ice Arena Lounge on the Bowling Green State University campus. The public is invited to attend, with lunch available for $15.
Their presentation, titled “Modes of Travel: From Bicycles to Ocean Liners,” will take attendees on a journey through the many ways they’ve explored the world. With a mix of adventure, humor, and insight, the Callecods will share stories from their travels by land and sea.
The Bowling Green Kiwanis Club is a community-centered organization committed to improving the lives of children in the Bowling Green area. Players staging ‘The Language Archive,’ weekends April 25-May 4
The Black Swamp Players will stage Julia Cho’s “The Language Archive,” a play that shows miscommunication is the universal language, Friday April 25, and Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m., continuing May 2 and 3 at 7:30 and closing wth a Sunday matinee on May 4 at 1:30 p.m.
“George is a man consumed with preserving and documenting the dying languages of far-flung cultures. Closer to home, though, language is failing him. He doesn’t know what to say to his wife, Mary, to keep her from leaving him, and he doesn’t recognize the deep feelings that his lab assistant, Emma, has for him.”
Early Music Ensemble to celebrate love in planetarium, April 25
The Bowling Green State University Early Music Ensemble will perform Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m. in the BGSU Planetarium.
The concert titled “All You Need is Love” will include ballads, songs and instrumental music about love from the Renaissance to the Classical Era. During the concert, the dome of the planetarium will feature visuals to accompany the performance.
Warren & Flick in concert in Grand Rapids, April 26
Warren & Flick will perform in concert Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m.in the historic Grand Rapids Town Hall. The duo of Grant Flick, violin, tenor guitar and nyckelharpa, and Jacob Warren, double bass, performs both traditional music and original compositions.

Library class has its head in cloud services, May 5
Join the Wood County District Public Library to learn more about cloud services on Monday, May 5 at p.m. in The Learning Lab at the Bowling Green Library.
This class will provide an overview of what the cloud is, what cloud services are available and how to use them. This course will be especially helpful for those who are curious about the cloud and those who currently use it but want more tips and tricks. Google Drive will be used as an example for this class, but questions about OneDrive and iCloud are welcome.

NAMI Wood County hosts book club meeting on Zoom, May 6
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wood County continues Nite Out with NAMI Book Club on April 22 and May 6 at 10 a.m. via Zoom.
The club will discuss the book, “How to Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen,” by David Brooks. The book explores how to better connect with others and foster healthier relationships.

Library holds monthly craft sessions
Monthly crafting sessions are on Fridays at 2 p.m. in the second Floor Meeting Room at the Wood County District Public Library in Bowling Green.
Each month will be a different craft suitable for beginners and craft enthusiasts alike.

- March 21 — Putting the Pieces Together Collage

Library hosts monthly graphic novel discussion for kids
Students aged 5-11 and up are invited to a book discussion about some favorite early reader graphic novels at WCDPL Mondays at 6 p.m. once a month in The Children’s Place.
Copies of the graphic novel for each month are available for checkout from the Bowling Green Library.

Just Baby ‘N Me storytimes at library on Tuesdays
Just Baby ‘N Me is a lap-sit storytime ideal for babies. This unique storytime will be on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.in The Children’s Place at the Bowling Green Library.
This lap-sit storytime is great for babies from birth through early walkers (12 months). The focus during storytime is on rhymes, songs, finger plays, and exploring short books together, and is meant to facilitate interaction between you and your baby to develop their language and early literacy skills.
Library hosting Fiber Friends Creative Circle on Tuesdays
The Wood County District Public Library is hosting Fiber Friends Creative Circle on Tuesdays at 10 beginning in the 2nd Floor meeting room.
Fiber Friends is a fun and social program that meets to chat and create. People of all skill levels are welcome. Even if ysomeone has never picked up knitting needles or a crochet hook, this group can teach the basic skills to get started on your newest hobby.
