Wood County is now up to 10,165 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Wednesday, Jan. 20, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 71 more cases than on Tuesday.
The number of first doses of the COVID vaccine being given in Wood County as of Tuesday was 6,215 – which is 4.75% of the county’s population.
The number of active COVID cases in the county today is 284, which is four fewer than on Tuesday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.
A total of 505 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with one more being hospitalized since Tuesday.
The county has recorded a total of 157 deaths from COVID, with one more occurring in the past day. Of those, one was in his 30s, two were in their 40s, four were in their 50s, 17 were in their 60s, 32 in their 70s, 62 in their 80s, and 38 in their 90s, and one in her 100s.
Of the total 10,165 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 39. Of those testing positive, 5,294 were female, and 4,871 were male.
Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
Every Wednesday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there are 23 areas in the county with active cases.
The Perrysburg ZIP code area again has the most this week, with 96-100 active cases. Next is Bowling Green, with 76-80 active cases.
Northwood is the next highest with 21-25 active cases, followed by Walbridge with 11-15. Cygnet, Fostoria, Grand Rapids and Rossford each have 6-10 active cases.
Areas with 1-5 cases each include Bloomdale, Bradner, Custar, Hoytville, Jerry City, Luckey, Millbury, North Baltimore, Pemberville, Portage, Rudolph, Tontogany, Wayne, West Millgrove and Weston.
The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Jan. 11) in the county included 65 students and 37 staff:
- All Saints Catholic: 0 students, 2 staff.
- Bowling Green City Schools: 11 students, 3 staff.
- Eastwood: 1 student, 4 staff.
- Elmwood: 3 students, 2 staff.
- Lake: 2 students, 0 staff.
- North Baltimore: 0 students, 1 staff.
- Northwood: 6 studenta, 4 staff.
- Penta Career Center: 6 students, 3 staff.
- Perrysburg: 27 students, 17 staff.
- Rossford: 6 students, 0 staff.
- St. Rose: 2 students, 0 staff.
- Westside Montessori: 1 student, 0 staff.
- Wood County ESC: 0 students, 1 staff.
Of the total COVID cases in Wood County, at least 845 have been in long-term care facilities – 446 were residents and 399 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Wednesday.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 103 of Wood County’s deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
