From WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY
Wood County is under an “enhanced risk” (3 of 5) for severe weather today, July 27.
Showers may start in the early afternoon today, with the best chance for heavier activity after 6 p.m. Strong to severe winds and large hail will be the hazards of greatest concern. Currently, Wood County has a 30-44% probability of 75 mph wind gusts.
While there is still some uncertainty where this system will be most impactful, confidence is high that damaging winds between 60 – 70 mph are likely and an isolated tornado or two may be possible. Straight line winds over a large area can cause widespread power outages and travel concerns.
Recommendations:
- Secure all loose outdoor items.
- Have flashlights with fresh batteries close by.
- Keep cell phones charged.
- Make sure safe space is ready if needed.
- Always have multiple ways to receive emergency notifications.
