Director Irina Zaurav says: “‘The Blue Bird,’ a play by Maurice Maeterlinck, tells the story of two peasant children, Mytyl and Tyltyl, who are sent on a magical quest by the fairy Berylune to find the Blue Bird of Happiness. Guided by personified elements like Light, Dog, and Cat, they journey through various realms, including the Land of Memory-The Past, The Luxury land and the Kingdom of the Future, encountering both joys and sorrows.
“Ultimately, they learn that the Blue Bird, symbolizing happiness, may be found not in far-off places but within their own home and familiar surroundings. The play explores themes of happiness, the human condition, and the interconnectedness of life.”
Stage Manager Izzie Douglass says that people should see the show because: “This script with a unique fairy tale story about The Blue Bird of Happiness reminds us of a timeless truth: true happiness isn’t found in luxury, but in learning to cherish what we already have. It’s a powerful lesson we all need to be reminded of every now and then.”
