From TIMOTHY’S PERRYSBURG FOUNDATION
Timothy’s Perrysburg Foundation has announced the artists for its “Discovers Music Series” 2025-26 season. All performances will continue to be presented at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, in Perrysburg. The mission of the foundation is “to clothe, feed, and fulfill,” and the performances planned for this season aim to “fulfill.” The 2025-26 season will feature various artists with strong connections to northwest Ohio, but some are new to the series.
The season will open Sunday, Oct. 12, with vocalist, “Dr. Jim” Young and the Jazz Interns. Supporting Young’s vocals, the Jazz Interns include saxophonist Michael Williams, bassist Kevin Eikum, pianist Scott Lavender, and Scott Kretzer on drum set.
Following the October event, the foundation will present Bowling Green native, Grant Flick, violinist, and his duo partner, Aaron Warren, on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026. After the family concert presented in the spring of 2025, Discovers will offer the Toledo Opera children’s program, “The Bear Who Couldn’t Fish,” on May 3. The season will conclude with Nancy Lendrim and her students presenting Harpfest in June 2026.
Equally at home performing as a soloist, backup singer, or bassist, Young also serves the community as an emergency room physician in his other career. His voice and song styling has been compared to Johnny Mathis. Young has been a professional musician for over 50 years, the last 20 in the Toledo area. Locally, he has performed at Jazz in the Garden, Lucille’s Jazz Lounge, and other venues. This will be Young’s first appearance with Discovers.
Conductor, arranger, and pianist, Scott Lavender, a Findlay native, has concluded years of touring with the aforementioned Johnny Mathis. Lavender, a BGSU alum, has had a career as a symphonic pops conductor, appearing across the country and in Canada with orchestras including the Detroit, Atlanta, and Baltimore symphonies and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Bassist Kevin Eikum has appeared before in the Discovers series, most recently in May 2025, with Ramona Collins. Eikum performs regularly in the area, particularly with Sixth Edition and as the bassist in the Toledo Jazz Orchestra.
Michael Williams, saxophonist, and Scott Kretzer, drums, complete the ensemble accompanying Young. Both have performing experience in northwest Ohio with various groups. Kretzer is also a recognized music educator, serving on the faculties of Heidelberg University and Adrian College.
This free admission concert is sponsored by Timothy’s Perrysburg Foundation and hosted by St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. This marks the third season the Discovers has been part of the Timothy’s Perrysburg Foundation, which supports three initiatives: Discovers Music Series; The Clothesline, a free clothing opportunity; and the new St. Tim’s Kitchen, which supports food insecurity by repurposing rescued food.
For the Oct. 12 event, the recital space will open at 2:30 p.m.; the concert will begin at 3 p.m. There will be no reserved seating for this free concert. St. Timothy Episcopal church is located at 871 East Boundary, Perrysburg. The facility is accessible and offers parking.
