The Cocoon’s anniversary gala to celebrate two decades of impact, Thursday, Nov. 6

From THE COCOON

On June 14, 2005, the Cocoon Shelter welcomed its first survivor and her child, opening its doors through the determination of grassroots efforts, dedicated founding members, and the steadfast support of the Wood County community.

Now known simply as The Cocoon, the organization has grown into Wood County’s only comprehensive emergency shelter and advocacy agency for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Over the past two decades, The Cocoon has supported more than 8,000 survivors – including children and pets – on their path to safety, healing, and justice.

To commemorate this milestone, The Cocoon is hosting a 20th anniversary gala event on Thursday, Nov. 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at Nazareth Hall, Grand Rapids. The event will host Cocoon supporters who will come together to honor survivors as well as those who have made the last 20 years possible. The evening will include a walk-through of The Cocoon’s history through storytelling and visual presentations, dinner, and a live auction to support critical programs and services.

The 20th anniversary gala is presented by Amazon (Rossford Fulfillment Center PCW1) and Gingi Rothman with additional support from Laverne and Jim Fallon, Thrivent, Whitacre Logistics, Asset Protection Corporation, GEM, Inc., PNC, Susan and George Winters, and Wood County Hospital.

Amazon’s Rossford fulfillment center has been partnering with The Cocoon for the last three years, providing not only financial support but also support for The Cocoon’s annual Holiday Assistance Program, helping to ensure that survivors and their children have a happy holiday season. Additional Amazon support includes providing in-kind basic needs donations and volunteer associates to assist with landscaping service days.

Gingi Rothman is a past Cocoon board president and has maintained her connection with The Cocoon through volunteering on the development committee as well as in other capacities.
