‘Let’s Feed the Need’ – as BG rallies to help those in need, BG Independent News will share how to help, or be helped

The Bowling Green area is responding to neighbors who are hurting. Those who aren’t sure how they will continue to feed their families. Those who worry how they will put gifts under the tree.

Businesses, civic organizations, churches, schools and local governments are stepping up to help as SNAP cuts continue to loom and as inflation and tariffs increase many everyday expenses.

So we at BG Independent News want to help the best way we know how – by gathering and sharing information that can help people in our community.

Starting this week, we will begin listing local efforts to help neighbors, under the heading “Let’s Feed the Need.”

For example … Sunset Bistro is offering “Free Soup Tuesdays” – ladling out hearty soups for anyone, no questions asked. The For Keeps shop downtown is collecting non-perishable food items for a local food pantry. Bowling Green City Schools’ Dear Santa Society is in full gear to put presents under the trees and food on tables of district families unable to handle the holidays. And the City of Bowling Green is putting $50,000 toward helping local food pantries feed residents in need.

We here at BG Independent News want to help by keeping a running list of those in the community who are looking out for their less fortunate neighbors. We will let readers know how they can help others – and how they can get help themselves.

Starting Tuesday, a link to the “Let’s Feed the Need” list will appear among the sidebars on our website, and on our Facebook page.

To provide as complete a list as possible, we are asking organizations and businesses to reach out to us to let us know how you are helping. If you email us at mclaughlinjan40@gmail.com, we will put your efforts on our list, which will be posted daily and updated as often as possible. To make it work, we will rely on the businesses and organizations to let us know the start and end dates to their assistance efforts.

This is our chance to stand up for our neighbors who are in limbo, not knowing when their food assistance will be coming, and unsure how to provide for their families during the holidays and beyond.

And it is our hope that people in need will feel no shame as they let their community help with no questions asked.

We’re all in this together.
