From EASTWOOD FFA
Eastwood FFA members excelled in the local Fall 2025 Career Development Events (CDE).
The chapter’s soil judging team competed in the Wood County Soils CDE in September. The contest consists of both rural and urban soil classifications.
The goal of the event is to understand the usability and limitations of soil by grading its characteristics and qualities. In the rural contest, FFA members graded the soils for various agricultural uses, primarily crop production. The urban contest justified land use for developing basements, roads, and buildings. Concepts taken into consideration include location, slope, soil type, soil texture, and drainage. The competition was hosted by the Otsego FFA Chapter with the help of the Wood Soil & Water District.
Also in September, 10 Eastwood FFA members traveled to Fulton County to the District 1 Soils CDE.
Participating in the Rural Soils contest were Frances Lockyer, Camille Foos, Addison Hannan, Madilyn Hartman, David Claydon, Keira Buchman, and Nathan Frobose. Frances Lockyer placed 16th overall. The team placed 7th in the district overall. Additionally, Cameron Brinker, Carrie Brinker, and Genevieve Ridenour participated in the Urban Soils contest, with Cameron Brinker placing 14th overall.
Parliamentary Procedure CDE
In October, Eastwood FFA members participated in the Wood County Parliamentary Procedure CDE. The event was hosted by the Eastwood FFA.
The Parliamentary Procedure CDE tested members on their ability to formally conduct a professional business meeting. Members must have extensive knowledge of general parliamentary procedure and complete a demonstration as a group. The six members of Eastwood’s Parliamentary Procedure team included: Chairperson Kennedy Ameling; Secretary Frances Lockyer, and members Kamryn Sundermeier, Camille Foos, Cameron Brinker, and Kyle Martin. The team placed third in the county.
Job Interview CDE
Also in October, Eastwood FFA members participated in the Wood County Job Interview CDE. The CDE competition was hosted by the Bowling Green FFA Chapter.
Eastwood participants included Evie Althaus, Bree Hayden, Kaydance Rutherford, and Kamryn Sundermeier. The Job Interview CDE tested FFA members’ ability to formally participate in a professional interview. Students selected a career they may be interested in, and they were graded on their overall career objective, cover letter, and résumé, alongside the interview itself.
Kamryn Sundermeier advanced to the District Job Interview CDE hosted at Bowling Green High School in November.

Food Science CDE
Eastwood FFA members participated in the District Food Science CDE hosted by Bowling Green High School also in November.
The members making up the team included Kyle Martin, Bree Hayden, Aubrey Porter, Scott Mckenzie, Frances Lockyer, Katelin Russel, Raegan Russel, and Brynn Sheets.
The Food Science CDE involved various practicums in food processing, product development, food safety, and marketing. Some of the tests required evaluating texture, scent, taste, and quality of food products. Members worked as a team to market and develop a food product to a panel of judges. Additionally, there was a general knowledge test that encompassed food processing, human nutrition, and marketing.
