The United States Constitution outlines the principles upon which our nation was founded. It’s a document rooted in the idea that states and citizens should govern themselves. But here in Ohio, this principle is being threatened.
Today, self-government is under serious threat from massive flows of foreign, domestic, and out-of-state money trying to buy influence in our elections. These outside forces have drowned out the voices of everyday Ohioans, undermining the authority of our state and corrupting the balance the Founders intended.
Fortunately, the Framers gave us a solution: the amendment process. When federal overreach or outside interference threatens the will of the people, it is not only our right but our duty to act.
The Ohio legislature is currently considering a resolution, HCR 19, that calls on Congress to pass the For Our Freedom Amendment. This amendment would restore the power of states to control their own election laws, returning control to local communities and protecting our elections from being hijacked by outside interests. Twenty-three states have already called for this amendment. It’s time for Ohio to be next. Let’s restore local control, protect self-government, and put Ohio voters back in charge.
