BG Community Foundation awards over $7,500 in grants to local schools for field trips

From BOWLING GREEN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

In celebration of America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, the Bowling Green Community Foundation has announced the approval of a series of educational grants supporting local school field trips that bring American history to life for students across the region.

A total of nine grants, amounting to $7,556, have been awarded to area schools to fund immersive, curriculum-connected field trip experiences. These initiatives are part of the nationwide America 250 commemoration, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

The funded projects will provide students with hands-on learning opportunities at historically significant destinations, including museums, heritage villages, and cultural landmarks. Participating schools include Bowling Green High School, Conneaut Elementary School, Kenwood Elementary, Montessori School of Bowling Green, and St. Aloysius School.

“History isn’t just something you read about, it’s something you experience. These grants are about making sure this experience isn’t reserved for just some students,” said Joe Edens, president of Bowling Green Community Foundation. “Every young person in this community deserves to stand in a place where history happened and feel like it belongs to them, too.”

The funded field trips will expose students to a range of historical themes, from early American industry and innovation to space exploration and local heritage. Many programs include guided tours, interactive exhibits, and place-based learning that aligns with classroom instruction.

The Bowling Green Community Foundation recognizes the importance of experiential education in fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and civic awareness. Through this initiative, the foundation aims to ensure that students of all backgrounds have access to meaningful educational opportunities tied to this historic milestone.
