From BGSU PLANETARIUM
The BGSU Planetarium has a summer-filled schedule of public shows, including four youth-focused shows in the afternoon, three general audience offerings in June, and an America 250 in the Planetarium series July 13-31.
The June schedule includes shows on Thursdays at 4 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and Sundays at 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
The afternoon shows are geared for younger audiences. The first show, aligned with the Wood County District Public Library’s dinosaur-themed summer read, is “Dino Soars! Change Over Time” at 4 p.m. on June 11 and at 4:30 p.m. on June 14. Also on June 14, Kelly Pheneger, WBGU director of education, will present a special program at 3:30 p.m. titled “Dino Roars, Reads & Reels.” Her presentation before the planetarium show will include stories, videos and activities for children and families featuring resources from PBS and INFOhio.
Shows for younger audiences also include a double feature on June 18 at 4 p.m. and June 21 at 4:30 p.m. “Sunstruck” will be paired with a short about color and light titled “Our Colorful World.”
The third daytime show is a first-time appearance at the planetarium. “A Teenager’s Guide to the Galaxy” is planned for June 25 at 4 p.m. and June 28 at 4:30 p.m.
Evening shows in June include new shows: “Mars: The Ultimate Voyage” on June 11 and June 18 at 8:30 p.m., and a double feature of the short “Journey to the Center of the Milky Way” and “Supermassive Black Holes: Uncovering the Invisible” at 8:30 p.m. on June 25 and June 28.
On June 18 and June 21 at 8:30 p.m., Dellenbusch will offer a live program titled “Sky Motions.” She will use the planetarium sky to explore the motions of the sun and stars across the sky at different times of the year and from different places on Earth.
America 250 in the Planetarium
According to Planetarium Director Dr. Kate Dellenbusch, America 250 in the Planetarium will celebrate American discovery, innovation, and values through three different planetarium shows and a nine-part series of interdisciplinary talks and presentations.
The special series will run Monday, Wednesday and Friday from July 13-31. The talks will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by a planetarium show. Public stargazing will follow, weather permitting.
Programs will include topics related to astronomy, history, art, music and more. The featured planetarium shows will be “Dawn of the Space Age,” “The Wright Way to Fly” and “Navigating with Lewis and Clark.” A detailed schedule with titles and presenters for the special series will be announced later this month.
